Slavery in Argentina

slavery in Argentina

Slavery is one of the biggest thing in the world and in history. We usually hear or learn about slavery in the United States but today I am going to talk about the country Argentina and how slavery was there. In Argentina slavery in the past was very popular in a very big way especially for those who are rich. Today in Argentina they have built a big church that represents slaves and what they have went through (Michael T. Luongo). In the Argentinian history it said that slaves were not taken from Africa and brought directly to Argentina. They said that they got slaves from other near countries when they were trading with them. The first slaves were brought from Brazil in 1587 to Argentina by trading (Erik Edwards). This explains that Argentina did not have to do with going all the way to Africa to get slaves through trading. Its the countries that are near us like brazil and uruguay and other countries.

slave resistance in Argentina

In Argentina they have made very strict laws that are not allowed to be broken by anyone and won't care about the amount of wealth they have. They have seen a lot of stuff that has happened to the other countries like brazil and the U.S. In both of of these countries slaves slaves have shown a type of rebell. They have made a strict rule against slaves so that they won’t rebell and to stop them from practicing their culture and religion (Robert J.). slavery has been a part of Argentina and its history. In 1813 slaves kids were freed and were not enslaved. In 1861 all slaves were all freed and slavery was completely abolished.

The affect of slaves on the Argentinians

The Argentinian culture was not just affected in a negative way but slavery brought them some positive things. People from each country that had slaves got affected by their culture. In Argentina they were introduced to to tango which is a dance that was very popular all around Argentina and now known all around the world as the dance of love (Robert farris thompson). But in the Argentinian country they see it differently. They also count Tango as a musical thing too both in one (sylvia pfeiffenberger).
